Wrapping Up the UCAIR Clear Skies Internship: A Season of Growth and Impact

As we wrap our internship program, generously sponsored by Boeing, UCAIR is excited to reflect on the journey. This program has given us the incredible opportunity to work with six recently-graduated high school students, diving deep into the world of air quality. Beyond learning about air quality, we aimed to show how every career path can contribute to a healthier environment. Our goal is to equip these interns with knowledge and professional skills that will not only empower them to advocate for clean air but also pave the way for successful careers in their respective fields, making them future leaders for our air quality mission

Our Clear Skies Interns have had a diverse and enriching experience throughout the program. They’ve engaged in various learning opportunities, from mastering practical communication skills in professional settings to discovering how to integrate and promote air quality awareness across different careers. The interns also worked on project proposals, which they presented to the UCAIR team. These projects required them to navigate the steps of project management and develop ideas to advance UCAIR’s mission, particularly with high school students in mind.

In July, we celebrated our six interns—Daira Camacho, Sam Meza, Cloud Garcia Ruiz, Liam Bird, Emerson Menges, and Nataly Gomez—recognizing their outstanding work and the valuable skills they’ve developed. The event featured an engaging game of networking bingo and welcomed guests from various backgrounds to support and connect with our interns. Many of these guests hosted the interns for field trips or workshops throughout the program, and the event allowed us to express our gratitude for their unique contributions.

Thanks to our partners, our team had the opportunity to visit remarkable places, including the Great Salt Lake with Westminster University’s Great Salt Lake Institute, Utah Clean Energy’s new Climate Innovation Center, the Climate of Hope exhibit at the Natural History Museum of Utah, Penna Powers Communication agency, and Boeing. We are deeply grateful for the support and opportunities provided by our partners. It has been rewarding to watch our interns grow and make meaningful connections, and we look forward to continuing to engage with Utah’s youth.
